New hybrid buses for routes 21, 63 and 189

A hybrid bus with an extra door and staircase.

The tender awards have arrived for Tranches 536, 537 and 539 as LOTS reports.

From LOTS (London Omnibus Traction Society).

The following contracts have been awarded by TfL. All routes retained by existing operators:

Tranche 536
·         21/N21 re-awarded to London Central with new Euro VI battery hybrid double deck, PVR 27 (a). Start date 8 October
·         63/N63 re-awarded to London Central with new Euro VI battery hybrid double deck, PVR 32 (a). Start date 12 November
·         321 (24 hour) re-awarded to London Central with 2009 Euro V double deck (ex route 21), PVR 20. Start date 8 October.
·         363 re-awarded to London Central, PVR 12 (a). Start date 12 November
·         P12 re-awarded to London Central with 2011 Euro V single deck (existing P12 vehicles + D8), PVR 15. Start date 8 October.
(a) = additional PVR to account for Crossrail and Roads Modernisation Plan (2 on 21/N21, 2 on 63/N63, 1 on 363).

Tranche 537
·         16/N16 re-awarded to Metroline with New Routemaster, PVR 22 inc 4 new vehicles). Start date 8 October.  Route 16 continues to terminate at Cricklewood Garage.
·         32 re-awarded to Metroline with 2010 Euro V battery hybrid, PVR 18, (ex route 189). Start date 8 October
·         107 re-awarded to Metroline with 2009 Euro IV Diesel double deck, PVR 11. Start date 8 October
·         189 re-awarded to Metroline with New Routemaster, PVR 18 subject to outcome of consultation on North West Corridor Review. Would increse to 19 if current structure is retained. Start date 8 October. New Routemaster conversion likely to start earlier.
·         316 re-awarded to Metroline with 2009 Euro IV diesel single deck, PRV 17. Start date 8 October. Route continues to terminate at Cricklewood Garage.

Tranche 539
·         405 school journeys - re-awarded to Arriva London South with existing fleet 2009 Euro IV diesel double deck, PVR 1 + 1 crosslinked from route 197 (SCRT double deck). Start date 29 October.
·         450 re-awarded to Arriva London South with new Euro VI diesel single deck, PVR 17. Start date 1 October.

So routes 21 and 63 will have new double deck hybrids later this year, whilst route 189 will have a hybrid bus with an extra door and staircase at the rear, which is the New Routemaster manufactured by Wrightbus. As the rollout of the New Routemaster is still commencing we may see the NRMs entering service early on route 189.

That means the list of routes for the new hybrids is updated.

*Expected to enter service early as part of the New Routemaster rollout program.

Also, I see on London Vehicle Finder that Route 3 has a small number of New Routemasters in service, as does route 68.

I have stumbled upon a website where they have converted the LOTS news page into an RSS feed which you can view here.
