London Bus Tender Awards: New Electric Buses for Routes 16, 104, 146, 208, 300, 301, 336 and P13

Design of the second-generation Yutong U11DD

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that eight routes have been awarded new electric buses. This means the New Routemaster buses will be withdrawn from route 16 and possibly deployed to another route.

LBSL intends to enter into new contracts for the following routes with the operators listed below:

Contract Start Date: 10th October 2026
Contract End Date: 7th October 2033

New electric vehicles may enter service after the contract start date, dependent on infrastructure and/ or vehicle delivery timescales.

The diesel vehicles detailed above will meet Euro VI emissions standards.

This is fantastic news, and it’s interesting to see that route 16 will be using new double-deck electric buses.

I mentioned in my previous article that TfL should consider selling the New Routemasters or repowering them as fully electric buses.
