London Bus Tender Awards: New Electric Buses for Route 29 and New Routemasters Continue On Route H32

As we approach the end of November, Transport for London (TfL) has announced new London Bus Tender Awards. Under these awards, route 29 will transition to new double-deck electric buses, while the three-door, two-staircase hybrid New Routemasters will continue operation on route H32.

LBSL intends to enter into new contracts for the following routes with the operators listed below:

Contract Start Date: 9th January 2027
Contract End Date: 6th January 2034

Route 177
Retained by: Stagecoach Selkent
PVR: 21
Vehicles: Existing hybrid double deck
Contract Start Date: 23rd May 2026
Contract End Date: 25th May 2029

Route 364
Retained by: Go-Ahead Blue Triangle
PVR: 14
Vehicles: Existing diesel single deck
Contract Start Date: 31st October 2026
Contract End Date: 2nd November 2029

Route H32
Current Operator: Transport UK West London
New Operator: Metroline
PVR: 11
Vehicles: Existing New Routemaster
Contract Start Date: 7th March 2026
Contract End Date: 3rd March 2028

New electric vehicles may enter service after the contract start date, dependent on infrastructure and/ or vehicle delivery timescales.

The diesel and hybrid vehicles detailed above will meet Euro VI emissions standards.


I do mention that route 29 was operated with high-capacity and accessible articulated (bendy) buses from 14 January 2006 till 25 November 2011, just only 5 years.

Greater Manchester has approved £65m to expand the Bee Network, adding around 220 electric buses and progressing tram-train plans. The funding also supports fleet upgrades and a new Travel Hub, helping the region move towards a fully integrated, zero-emission system by 2030.
