London Bus Tender Awards: New Electric Buses for Route R68

Yesterday (27th August 2026), Transport for London (TfL) announced that Transport UK London has retained routes 201 and R68, with the latter route set to operate using new electric single-deck buses under the new contract.

LBSL intends to enter into new contracts for the following routes with the operator listed below:

Route 201
Retained by: Transport UK London
Peak Vehicle Requirement (PVR): 10
Vehicles: Existing diesel single deck
Contract Start Date: 2nd October 2027
Contract End Date: 1st October 2032

Route R68
Retained by: Transport UK West London
PVR: 9
Vehicles: New electric single deck
Contract Start Date: 26th June 2027
Contract End Date: 23rd June 2034

New electric vehicles may enter service after the contract start date, dependent on infrastructure and/or vehicle delivery timescales.

The diesel vehicles detailed above will meet Euro VI emissions standards.

🚍 A new SL12 Superloop route linking Gants Hill, Romford, Elm Park and Rainham launches on 5 September, expanding into Havering for the first time. Pay-as-you-go journeys will be free for the first week. The route will also serve Ferry Lane Industrial Estate for the first time.
