10 Low Emission Bus Zones and minimum wage for London Bus drivers

I’ve combined various ‘London Bus related’ news items in to this article.

First up we have the news that the London Mayor has announced 10 Low Emission Bus Zones for London.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, today announced plans for 10 more Low Emission Bus Zones deploying the greenest buses on the capital’s most polluted routes to cut harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

The buses are part of the Mayor’s hard-hitting measures to tackle London’s filthy air – responsible for the premature deaths of more than 9,000 Londoners every year – with major plans set to be implemented in 2017 to tackle the dirtiest vehicles.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first:

Bus services that are operated by Tower Transit are on strike today!

Strikes for Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann in Ireland on May 2015

Over in the Republic of Ireland, Unions SIPTU are holding a strike on Friday 1st May, Saturday 2nd May, Friday 15th May and Saturday 16th May whilst NBRU are striking on 15^th & 16^th May and 19^th, 30^th and 31^st of May. The reason why they’re striking is because 10% of the routes are going to be contracted out to private operating companies.

#TFL #BusStrike for February 2015

UPDATE: TFL have stated on their website that the planned strikes which were to take place on the 13th and the 16th of February have now been postphoned.

Unite members voted for another strike which will affect the majority of London Transports Bus services. The planned strikes will be taking place on 5^th February, 13^th February and 16^th February 2015.

TFL have issued this press release:

Transport for London (TfL) is advising bus passengers to check the TfL website for the latest information ahead of planned strike action by members of the Unite union, who work for London's bus companies, which is due to affect bus services on Thursday 5 February.

The strike - the result of a dispute between Unite and the bus companies over driver pay and conditions - will affect services from around 4am on Thursday 5 February and also night bus services operating on the Thursday night into Friday morning. Bus services during the day on Friday 6 February should operate as normal.

You can use London Vehicle Finder on your smartphone, then enter in the route number and press go.

On 13^th January 2015, London bus drivers to hold industrial action over pay and conditions.

TfL issued a press release.

Transport for London (TfL) has today advised bus passengers to check the TfL website for the latest information about planned strike action by members of the Unite union, who work for London's bus companies, which could affect bus services on Tuesday 13 January.

The planned strike, the result of a dispute between Unite and the bus companies over driver pay and conditions, is planned to take place between 00:01 and 23:59 on Tuesday 13 January. This would affect services throughout Tuesday 13 January and also night bus services operating on the Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Bus services during the day on Wednesday 14 January should operate as normal.

Industrial action for London Bus services operated by Tower Transit

TFL have issued a press release in regards of the private bus operator Tower Transit striking.

Transport for London (TfL) has today issued advice to bus passengers ahead of planned strike action by members of the Unite union, who work for Tower Transit, which will affect bus services in east and central London on Monday 29 December and Monday 5 January. 

The strike is over a dispute between Unite and Tower Transit over bus driver pay and conditions. Only around 22 per cent of Tower Transit bus drivers voted for strike action. TfL is calling for Unite and Tower Transit to swiftly resolve the dispute so that passengers are not disrupted
