First of all, Happy New Year everyone;
this is a follow up to my roundup of 2016 article.
So, what kind of things am I expecting
to happen in the transport world in 2017?
Route 76 - operated by Go Ahead London General -
expected date 28th January
East London Transit routes EL1, EL2 and EL3 - operated by Go Ahead Blue Triangle-
expected date 18th February
Route 48 - operated by Arriva London- expected
date 25th February
Route 254
- operated by Arriva
London- expected date 3rd June
I’m waiting for the Enviro400H City buses to enter service on routes 133 and 333. The new stylish buses
are purchased by Arriva London and are expected to enter service on 21st
January 2017.
Route 360 should be having single deck
electric buses which are expected to enter service in October 2017.
The withdrawal of the real route 13 as bus company Tower
Transit won route 82 which will be renumbered to route 13 - the contract
starts on 1st April 2017.
As part of Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations 2000, this has caused all single
deck buses to be fully accessible as they have to be low floor buses now. This
occurred back on the 1st January 2016.
The 2017 deadline now applies to all
double deck buses as they must be fully accessible as the ‘step floor’ buses are
not allowed to operate in Britain.
The up-and-coming bus types we are expecting
to enter service are:
- The Volvo B5LHC with the SRM (two-door one-staircase New Routemaster) bodywork
- The Optare Metrodecker Electric Vehicle
- And the Wright Gemini 3 with hydrogen system
Hopefully there will be a few more
surprises from TFL and London Buses with more ultra low/zero
emission buses coming to London.
It’s vital we have more zero/low
emission buses to help combat diesel emissions which cause serious pollution and contribute towards Climate Change.
You can read more about it here.
Here’s the list of London Bus routes
that are receiving new buses – I wrote about this on the 21st
November 2016 which you can read here.
