From Wrightbus
Today, Wrightbus International announced it had received an order for 5 StreetDeck double deckers which have entered service in Monterrey city, in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The buses have been operating on a busy Bus Rapid Transit corridor in downtown Monterrey since October 2017. Their appearance marks the first phase in an ambitious Wrightbus plan for Latin America, which will include cities in Mexico and Chile.
The double deckers are equipped with Wrightbus Micro-Hybrid technology, USB ports and Wifi. Each vehicle is 10.6 metres in length with 63 seats. The power pack in the vehicles is a Euro 6 Daimler engine which, when coupled with the latest Wrightbus Micro-Hybrid driveline, has been proven to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions. The advanced Euro 6 Technology of the Wrightbus Streetdeck is 190 times more efficient in reduction of NOX(Nitrous Oxide) than Euro 4 buses. This will have a significant impact on the air quality in Monterrey.
A spokesperson for the, Department of Sustainable Development for the State of Nuevo Leon, said:
“We have been impressed with the Wrightbus product range and are excited to see the first Euro 6 double decker buses in operation in our city, which is an important milestone for Mexico. The positive feedback we have received from both passengers and bus operators regarding the performance of the StreetDeck is very encouraging, and the commitment Wrightbus has already demonstrated to support its product locally has given us confidence about the future.”
In confirming the new order, Managing Director for Wrightbus International, John McLeister, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to secure this strategically important order in Monterrey. We are very proud to be the first manufacturer of Euro 6 low emissions buses for Latin America. This reflects a huge effort from the Wrightbus team, and is a very significant step for the company. I would like to thank the UK Department of International Trade for their tremendous help and support throughout the process.
We are very confident that our Micro-Hybrid driveline, which is the best of its type in Europe, will begin to make a real difference to operating costs and air quality in Mexico. Soon we hope to see more Wrightbus products in service across the country.
I would also like to thank the state of Nuevo Leon for their foresight and commitment in being the first city in Latin America to introduce Euro 6 technology into its bus fleet.”
In order to reinforce its drive for growth in Latin America, Wrightbus International has recently appointed Nathan Hodge as its Regional Account Manager for Latin America. Nathan has previously worked for Wrightbus in product development, including a tour of duty in India.
