Alexander Dennis wins Board of Trade Award and London Bus tender awards

Alexander Dennis was announced the winner of a Board of Trade Award by the Department for International Trade.

Bus and coach manufacturer Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) has been announced as winner of a Board of Trade Award, which recognises companies for their excellence in international trade, demonstrating innovation, creativity and entrepreneurialism.

Recipients were nominated and selected by the Department for International Trade, with the awards presented at a gala in Stirling by Dr Liam Fox, Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade.

Building on its market-leading position in the United Kingdom, ADL has successfully exported its expertise in double deck and lightweight bus technology and is now the world leader in this field. The company’s international revenues have grown seven-fold since 2007 and now account for close to 50% of ADL’s business.

ADL has used its success in Hong Kong to springboard to other markets in the Asia-Pacific region including Singapore, New Zealand and Malaysia. In the United States and Canada, ADL has sold 1,000 double deck buses and is focusing on growing this further with locally manufactured double and single deck vehicles. Earlier this year, 90 double deck buses entered service in Mexico City as part a landmark Latin American deal that was supported by the Government’s UK Export Finance agency. A launch order from Switzerland has generated additional interest in continental Europe for ADL to explore.

Accepting the award, Robert Davey, ADL Group Commercial & Business Development Director commented: “We are pleased that our hard work in taking our best-in-class products and technology to a global audience is recognised with this Board of Trade Award. We are grateful for the Department for International Trade’s support in connecting us with stakeholders around the world and in facilitating finance solutions. With no shortage of opportunities, we look forward to continuing our international growth.”

Alexander Dennis has been building buses for the world and the MTA in New York City are using the ‘superlo’ height (12'10'' 3.91m) double deck buses for their express services.

Alexander Dennis buses are also used by various operators in Hong Kong.

As I’ve previously stated, I believe the Enviro400 City (diesel/hybrid/biogas) product is the new iconic bus for Britain because of the design cues used by the three-door, two-staircase hybrid New Routemaster bus in London.
